The State University of New York will begin offering a steep tuition discount to active-duty service members, National Guard members and reservists.
The SUNY Military Tuition Rate Program aims to make higher education more accessible to those actively serving in the United States military.
Currently, the United States offers up to $4,500 in tuition assistance to active duty members. The SUNY Military Tuition Rate Program will help close the gap when school costs more.
“This is effectively making SUNY tuition free,” said Gary Ginsburg, SUNY’s chief communications officer.
Certain SUNY schools, like Tompkins Cortland Community College, SUNY Albany and SUNY Buffalo, will start the program for the spring 2026 semester. It will go into effect at all SUNY schools in fall 2026.
