RALEIGH, N.C. — The UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees approved a tuition increase starting with next year’s freshman class, WNCN reports.

In-state undergraduate tuition will rise by 3%, while out-of-state students will see a 10% hike. Graduate students who are not North Carolina residents will also see a 1% increase.

The change marks the first in-state tuition increase within the UNC System since 2017. Housing costs will rise 7%, and dining services about 4%.

Current students will not be affected. The proposal still requires final approval from the UNC Board of Governors in early 2026.

NC State University trustees are considering a similar 3% tuition increase this week.
