Maria Bowling, a 26-year-old first-year doctoral candidate at Princeton University died Sunday, Nov. 9, the university announced.
Bowling, an Angola native, was studying history of her country, with a focus on the Angolan borderlands and the history and politics of language and nation-building in southern Africa, the university said.
Fluent in Portuegese,French and English, Bowling earned her bachelor’s degree in international relations and an MA in politics at Sorbonne University in Paris.
She is survived by her husband, Tanner, her parents, Crisostomo and Rosario, her sister, Ariela and her brother, Arialdo, the university said.
A fundraiser has been established for Bowling's family to assist with funeral services.
"We are asking for donations to honor Maria's final wishes to be laid to rest surrounded by the traditions, love, and community that shaped her life," Tanner Bowling, who organized the fundraiser, wrote.
