Chatham Maroons rookie forward Gensen Geldart’s impressive start has earned him an OHL contract with the Saginaw Spirit.

Geldart, 16, is scheduled to join the Spirit on their three-game road trip this week. They play Thursday in Barrie, Saturday in Sudbury and Sunday in North Bay.

He could rejoin the Maroons after the trip, but there’s no timeline for his return, Maroons head coach and general manager Brennan Feasey said.

The six-foot-one, 173-pound Geldart was a fourth-round pick in this year’s Ontario Hockey League draft.

The Vaughan native was recently named the Greater Ontario Hockey League prospect of the week after notching his first career hat trick. He has five goals and five assists during his current seven-game point streak.
