SANTA CLARA — Coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday the 49ers are building toward quarterback Brock Purdy returning to the starting lineup this week.
Purdy is scheduled for a limited practice Wednesday, but he appears to be taking a step toward a possible return to action Sunday with a heavier practice load.
The 49ers (6-4) play at the Arizona Cardinals (3-6) in Week 11. Purdy could play after missing the past six games with an aggravation of a turf-toe injury.
Purdy originally sustained the injury in the 49ers’ Week 1 victory over the Seattle Seahawks. He sat out two games before returning to face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 28. Purdy re-injured his right big toe in that game. He was limited in practice each of the past three weeks.
