LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - The longest government shutdown in U.S. history ended after 43 days when President Donald Trump signed the agreed congressional bill into law.
The federal government was temporarily shut down on Oct. 1 after lawmakers failed to come to an agreement on budget allocations. The shutdown affected locals who receive federal funding, such as SNAP benefits, and local food pantries that aim to pick up the slack in times of need.
