BROCKPORT — It will be a showdown between two teams who reached the final in vastly different ways on Friday night when No. 5 Notre Dame/Byron-Bergen takes on No. 2 Avon for the Section V Class D title at 7 p.m. at SUNY Brockport.
For the Irish, it has been a drastic turnaround that has led them to the title game. ND/B-B head coach Otis Thomas saw his team finish winless a season ago and drop three of the first four games this season, with the lone win coming against a Holley team that finished 0-8. Since then, the Irish have ripped off a 4-2 record headlined by a last-second 19-14 win over No. 1 York/Pavilion in the Class D semifinal a week ago.
