Decatur Police Department and city of Decatur officials held a news conference Thursday afternoon to provide an update and confirm some details related to an officer-involved shooting, which happened Wednesday night.

In the news conference, police said an officer tried to pull over a driver for a minor traffic infraction near 12th Avenue and 1st Street SW about 8:25 p.m. The vehicle allegedly continued at a low speed before stopping on 11th Avenue.

The driver then reportedly exited the vehicle and brandished what police say appeared to be a firearm.

The officer fired a few shots in response, striking the suspect at least one time.
