MADISON (WKOW) — The government shutdown ended on Wednesday night, but on Thursday state Democrats were still pushing for new laws to ease the burden of food costs on Wisconsinites.
Democrats introduced two new bills aimed at enhancing food security and supporting local farmers.
The group said that the past few weeks have highlighted that Wisconsinites are concerned with making sure their friends and neighbors are fed.
Rep. Karen DeSanto (D-Baraboo) highlighted the purpose of the bills.
"We need to protect Wisconsinites' access to basic necessities like nutritious local and regular meals, which is why we're introducing legislation to help farmers feed our communities," she said.
The two bills would work to reduce food waste and help families gain access to nutritious foods.
