CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Border Patrol personnel will be coming to the Charlotte area as soon as this weekend, the Mecklenburg County sheriff confirmed on Thursday.
Federal officials contacted Sheriff Garry McFadden on Wednesday, Nov. 12 to make him aware.
The sheriff’s office said members of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection -- which includes Border Patrol -- were expected to move into the Charlotte region by Saturday or the early part of next week.
Confirmation that Border Patrol will come into the area comes days after CBS reported that the federal agency could target Charlotte as it prepared to lessen its presence in Chicago.
