ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - MLS has announced one of the biggest changes in league history: a plan to move to a summer-to-spring schedule in 2027.
The league currently plays between February and November, a rarity in international soccer. Most leagues begin play in the summer while playing through the winter.
The new schedule will align MLS more closely with international breaks and transfer windows.
MLS will hold a shortened “2027″ season between February and May before beginning the new schedule in July 2027.
The league will have a midwinter break between mid-December and early February. The season is then set to wrap up in May 2028.
