ROYSTON, Ga. —

An investigation is underway after a person died from a gunshot wound inside a Royston, Georgia, home.

On Wednesday, deputies with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Salem Road regarding a report of an unresponsive individual.

When deputies arrived, they found a person with a gunshot wound and attempted lifesaving measures, but were not successful.

The sheriff's office requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death, which is standard protocol.

The investigation remains ongoing. The victim's identity has not been released at this time.
