Jim Avila, a veteran broadcast journalist who spent decades reporting for ABC News, died at 69 following a long illness, the network announced Nov. 13.
ABC News president Almin Karamehmedovic confirmed Avila’s death and paid tribute to the longtime correspondent in a statement on the news outlet’s official Instagram account.
“We send our heartfelt condolences to his family, including his three children, Jamie, Jenny, and Evan, and we thank him for his many contributions and unwavering commitment to seeking out the truth,” Karamehmedovic said.
Avila reported for ABC’s flagship programs including “World News Tonight,” “20/20,” and “Good Morning America” as a senior national correspondent. His assignments took him across the globe, from the White House, where he covered the Bush and Obam
