A worker was injured in a fire at a southwest Phoenix wastewater treatment plant, according to Phoenix Fire, which described the incident as a hazardous materials situation.
Firefighters were dispatched around 9:30 a.m., Nov. 13, to the plant on 91st Avenue and Roeser Road. Crews found smoke coming from a tunnel approximately 10 feet underground, the fire department said.
A contractor with minor burn injuries was taken in stable condition to a hospital.
Firefighters were still working on controlling the fire as of 12:30 p.m. The entire plant was evacuated, but wastewater services remained in operation, the department said. No residents near the plant were impacted, according to Phoenix Fire.
