ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Georgia Tech is honoring the legacies of former President and First Lady Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter with a school bearing their name.
The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School of Public Policy was approved back in April, but the Carter family gathered at the school Thursday to make it official, as the one-year mark nears of the former president’s death.
From peanut farmer in Plains to president of the United States, Georgia Tech is a part of Jimmy Carter’s story.
Briefly a student here in the 1940s, he became a lifelong fan.
“My grandfather said to me when I decided to go to Duke, he said I guess that’s okay if you can’t get into Tech,” Jason Carter, the Carters’ grandson, said.
Now, a school at Tech housing roughly 700 students bears his name.
