A preliminary NJ Transit investigation found two Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen union leaders were paid $10,000 for days off that they allegedly took around contract negotiations.
NJ Transit CEO Kris Kolluri said preliminary findings from an integrity monitor hired last month confirmed allegations that Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen General Chairman Tom Haas Jr. and Vice Chairman Donald Mellhorn improperly charged NJ Transit for union business.
Union officials pushed back, saying their leaders were willing to be interviewed, but NJ Transit investigators did not question them.
The investigation “validated our initial suspicions,” Kolluri told NJ Transit’s board of directors Wednesday night.
