A bill to expand Nevada’s film tax credits hit a temporary roadblock Thursday, the first day of the Legislature’s special session to consider urgent matters.
Selena La Rue Hatch, a Reno Democrat, interrupted a routine hearing of the full Assembly with an objection. She opposed letting the bill on film studio subsidies get a hearing.
Her move immediately sent the floor hearing into recess for nearly 90 minutes.
Democratic Assemblywoman Tracy Brown-May from Las Vegas was not in attendance. Behind the scenes, she was tracked down so she could connect remotely — an unusual accommodation — so that she could cast a critical vote that caused a tie on La Rue Hatch’s objection.
The tie meant her objection failed, but it also means the bill does not have enough support currently to pass the Asse
