A West Australian grazier's four-year legal battle to keep feral donkeys on his property is over, but he is not giving up hope yet.

Kachana Pastoral Company must kill 117 donkeys on its station in the remote Kimberley region after a State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) ruled against an application for them to stay .

The group, comprised of grazier Chris Henggeler, business partner Danny Waser and their families, has been ordered to cull at least 70 feral donkeys by August 31 next year and the remainder by August 31, 2027.

Mr Henggeler said he remained optimistic that Kachana, which had long been using donkeys for landcare purposes, including fire mitigation, would find middle ground with its regulators.
