For many cross country runners, the state championships will signal an end to the season.

For Anna Furman of Tri-Valley, it’s just the beginning.

Furman is a predominant favorite to repeat as the girls Class D champion when the 74 th New York State Public High School Athletic Association meet is held on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Queensbury High School.

Only a junior, Furman, 16, has already etched her mark as one of the top female runners to come out of Section 9 and Sullivan County. She placed second in the state as an eighth grader in 2022 and freshman in 2023, and last year she won the title on the same course she’s going to run on Saturday.
