A shoplifting suspect was struck and killed by a vehicle after running onto a highway in Gates on Thursday afternoon, according to Gates Police.
The alleged thief is accused of running out of an Aldi supermarket, 8 Spencerport Road, Gates, hauling a backpack full of merchandise just after noon on Nov. 13, said Gates Police Chief Rob Long. The man fled on foot and was headed east and was spotted by an officer in a patrol vehicle roughly five minutes later at the Lyell Avenue bridge over Route 390.
