COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Fort White woman, 69, was killed after being hit by a car while riding a motorcycle Thursday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
It happened on County Road 778, a two-lane road east of Fort White.
An FHP report says the woman, on a three-wheeled Harley Davidson, was riding in the westbound lane behind a 2009 sedan driven by a Fort White 17-year-old boy. She attempted to pass the car on the left, FHP said, within a passing zone.
At the same time, however, the teenager was slowing down and attempted to make a left turn onto SW Fortune Way, colliding with the motorcycle.
The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead, FHP said. The driver of the sedan and his 20-year-old passenger were not seriously injured.
