Nashville SC and the rest of Major League Soccer will debut a new competition calendar starting in the summer of 2027.

The MLS will adopt a summer-to-spring season format like most other major international leagues, a schedule that will kick off in mid- to late July 2027 and conclude with the league playoffs and MLS Cup being presented in late May 2028.

There will be a midwinter break from mid-December through early February, with no league matches scheduled in January.

In past years, the league has started in late February, with the MLS Cup title game played in late November or in early December.

The advantage of the current format is that it doesn’t feature games being played during some of the coldest months of the year.

But there are disadvantages to the current calendar as well:
