CLARKE COUNTY, Iowa —

The Clarke County Sheriff's Office is searching for the driver in a deadly hit-and-run south of Murray.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. Wednesday. Deputies say a male juvenile was in a horse-drawn buggy when it was hit from behind by a vehicle.

Elmer Borntrager, 16, of Murray, has since been identified as the juvenile in the buggy. He was thrown from it and died from his injuries, despite efforts from first responders.

Deputies are looking for a silver or gray Chevrolet or GM sedan with heavy damage on the front right side. The car may also have damage to the windshield and roof.
