AVONDALE, Ariz. — Court records reveal why Avondale police arrested an 18-year-old for allegations of criminal damage while investigating the murder of an Agua Fria High School student.

Rhiana Kemplin was found with a gunshot wound on the morning of Nov. 8 at her family's residence in Avondale. The teenager later died from her injury.

Records show Kemplin's mother told Avondale police she had been woken up by a door being forced open and saw a male in dark-colored clothing allegedly pointing a firearm at her. The male fled from the apartment.

Records show the mother called 911 and discovered Kemplin had been shot.
