BANGOR, Maine — Three warming shelters will be open in Bangor this winter after fears there would only be one.
"When they found out we weren't opening, there was a lot of stress going on,” Leon Licata, the pastor at Brick Church, said.
As temperatures started to drop this fall, the Brick Church didn't know if it could operate a warming shelter this winter, but now, pastor Licata is breathing a sigh of relief.
"Those are your kids out there,” Licata said.
The church is receiving $60,000 from the City of Bangor to open its warming shelter this winter. With that funding, they'll be providing 70 people with a warm place to sleep starting Saturday.
"We are kind of excited to get open and get rolling to keep people safe,” Licata said.
