STONINGTON, Conn. (WFSB) - Volunteers are putting the finishing touches on a 40-foot lobster trap tree at the Stonington docks as the shoreline holiday tradition prepares for another season.

The tree consists of 460 lobster traps and 460 buoys, with an anchor serving as the tree topper. Volunteers are about halfway done installing the buoys on the structure.

“It’s exquisite. It’s like going to an art museum,” said Lisa Konicki, president of the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce, who helps make the display a reality.

The Stonington tree is one of about 15 lobster trap trees in New England. Konicki said it serves as a draw for the community.

“It really is a draw card to our community because of this unique landmark that we’ve been able to create,” she said.
