NDP Leader Marit Stiles is fighting a water privatization proposal found inside a sweeping omnibus bill the Tories plan to push through the legislature.

“We are here because of a fight that affects every person and every community in Ontario,” said Stiles, standing outside the Lorne Park Water Treatment Plant in Mississauga Thursday. “The fight to keep water in our province safe, clean, affordable and public.”

Bill 60, the Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act, introduced on Oct. 23, would designate a corporation to provide water and sewage services “on behalf of particular lower-tier municipalities.”

If passed, the bill would begin this process by transferring jurisdiction over public water and sewage utilities from Peel Region to the City of Mississauga, Brampton, and the Town of Caled
