LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Although the longest government shutdown in U.S. history has ended, Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño says several local services are still struggling to get back on track.
The mayor says food banks remain low on supplies and continue to rely heavily on community donations. He also notes that health department programs and services such as SNAP will take time to fully recover.
And with the government reopened only temporarily, Treviño says the city must use this time to prepare for the possibility of more disruption.
“We have to prepare for this and we have to have contingency plans ready for situations like this. I think this is one of the longest time we had been in a shutdown, and it’s dysfunctional for everybody. We just need to be aware that these are possibilit
