RIVERSIDE, Mo. (KCTV) - Law enforcement officials across the Kansas City metro gathered Thursday for the 54th Annual Awards for Valor.

The ceremony, held in Riverside, honored officers who risk their lives for others. That included two who were killed in the line of duty this summer in Wyandotte County, Kansas.

The Metropolitan Chiefs and Sheriffs Association honored fallen Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office deputy Elijah Ming and Kansas City, Kansas Police Department officer Hunter Simoncic.

Ming was killed July 26, 2025, at the age of 34 while responding to a domestic incident. Simoncic, 26, was killed after being hit by a suspect who deliberately crashed into him during a car chase.

Their families were in attendance at the Awards for Valor to accept the awards on their behalf.
