SEATTLE — Mayor-elect Katie Wilson addressed media on Thursday in her first major speech since winning Seattle's mayoral race, following Mayor Bruce Harrell's concession .
Wilson began her speech reaffirming that she originally had no intention of running for public office. She said the decision came following a realization that Seattle's government and working people were "out of step" with one another.
"I sensed the people of Seattle and its government were out of step, that voters were in search of a new direction, and that our problems required new leadership," Wilson said.
Wilson said Harrell called to congratulate her on her win in Seattle's mayoral race, calling his speech to the city "thoughtful and heartfelt."
