LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A recent report found Louisville needs a new jail to replace its current "obsolete" facility.
In 2023, Louisville Metro Government contracted CGL Companies (CGL) to conduct an assessment on the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections (LMDC) facility and recommend strategies to improve the city’s corrections system.
According to its website and LinkedIn, CGL is a criminal justice consulting company based in Miami, Florida.
Louisville's request came after a dozen in-custody deaths between November 2021 and October 2022.
CGL published its final report on Nov. 6, which said Louisville’s downtown jail fails to meet the standards of a modern detention center.
