CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- UVA School of Medicine researchers are reporting the first confirmed death caused by the tick-related condition called alpha-gal syndrome, commonly known as the “meat allergy.”
The allergy triggered by certain tick bites can make eating or even being near meat or dairy products dangerous. Researchers say they long feared that severe allergic reactions could lead to deadly anaphylaxis, but until now, a fatal case had not been confirmed.
