Hawaiian Electric re-energized all circuits affected by the power shut-off in South Kohala on Hawaii island by 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Weather conditions were ripe for a wildfire, which prompted Hawaiian Electric to put its Public Safety Power Shutoff program into action beginning at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday.

High winds and dry conditions prevailed in South Kohala, affecting 1,175 customers.

Hawaiian Electric said at 4 a.m. that it began power restoration to 940 customers.

Hawaiian Electric, however, warned customers in all high-risk areas on Hawaii island and Maui to be on the alert and be prepared for possible extended power outages.

The utility company urged customers to implement their own emergency plans.
