Maricopa police and fire crews responded to a medical emergency at the Arby’s restaurant on the main strip this afternoon after a patient appeared to be experiencing a possible reaction to narcotics, according to a spokesperson for the city.
Police officers administered Narcan at the scene before Maricopa Fire and Medical Department personnel took over patient care, Elle Ortega said in an email to InMaricopa .
The patient survived and was transported to an area hospital for further medical treatment.
Narcan, the brand name for the medication naloxone, is an opioid antidote used to quickly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and restore normal breathing. It can be given as a nasal spray or injection and is commonly carried by first responders for emergency use.
