A Pacific storm is bringing strong winds, rain and high-elevation snow to the Reno-Tahoe region Thursday into Friday morning.
Valley gusts around Reno and western Nevada will reach 30 to 40 mph, with wind-prone areas seeing up to 60 mph. Along the Sierra crest, ridgetop gusts of 80 to 100 mph are expected through Thursday evening before winds ease overnight.
Most lower elevations around Reno will see only spotty light showers because of the Sierra’s rain-shadow effects, while the highest passes and peaks pick up the bulk of the rain and snow.
Forecasters expect a short break Friday afternoon into early Saturday before more showers move in over the weekend, followed by a colder storm Monday that could drop snow levels and keep the unsettled pattern going into next week.
