MONTROSE TOWNSHIP, MI – A 19-year-old died in Montrose Township after an excavator tipped over and landed on the teen who was working as an equipment operator.

The teenager was using a mini excavator to remove equipment near an excavation site when the excavator slid sideways down a bank and tipped over.

The teenager was partially ejected, and the excavator landed on them. The incident happened on Nov. 11.

The ground sloped away from the equipment and was covered with snow, ice, wet leaves and mud, potentially causing the crash, the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration wrote.
