NEW LONDON, Conn. — It’s been over a year since a tragedy on the water in Old Saybrook claimed the lives of three men returning with friends from a Labor Day spent on Block Island.

Police say Clayton Hackling, a Lyme resident, was driving the boat and was under the influence at the time of the crash on Sept. 2, 2024.

Hackling appeared in court for another hearing Thursday in New London.

It was fairly quick, as both the prosecution and Hackling’s attorney agreed on taking more time to review medical records on all of the people involved in the crash.
