Following the end of the longest government shutdown in history, Illinois recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits will see them restored starting Friday, the Illinois Department of Human Services announced Thursday.

"Remaining benefits payments will be made over the coming days, with all SNAP recipients receiving their full November benefits by Nov. 20," IDHS said in a statement Thursday.

The house voted to end the government shutdown Wednesday evening, putting an end to the record-setting shutdown that began on Oct. 1.

One provision in the reopening measure calls for restarting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, but it doesn’t resolve when the benefits will be loaded onto the debit cards beneficiaries use to buy groceries.
