TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Tucson educators are joining a global movement to respond to signs of trauma in children through a practice called “ Emergency Pedagogy Without Borders .”
It’s part of Waldorf Education -- a global arts-based approach to schooling -- which includes the Tucson Waldorf School .
The National Institute of Health said up to 70 percent of children in the United States experience trauma before age 16. The Child Mind Institute notes that when trauma occurs, learning stops.
Emergency Pedagogy includes strategies from the classroom that can help kids work through trauma. Once trained, teachers travel around the country to support children in the wake of tragedy. A group from Tucson traveled to Kerr County, Texas, last month to help victims
