BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
After the longest shutdown in history, the government officially opened back up on Thursday. The shutdown started at midnight on Oct. 1. While some people who were impacted are breathing a sigh of relief, others are concerned the relief will only be short-lived.
Donald Trump signed the Stopgap Funding Bill Wednesday night. The bill will fund the government until the end of January. It also ordered federal employees who were furloughed back to work on Thursday and guaranteed federal workers would get back pay.
One federal employee told WVTM 13 that they described surviving the shutdown as difficult, but there’s still some uncertainty that scares some employees because they don't want to be back in this position again.
