A man caught attempting to barricade shut a side door of the Portland U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in mid-June was sentenced Thursday to one year of federal probation.
Liam Harry Houpis, 22, of Vancouver, pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor crime of creating a hazard on federal property.
He was one of three people charged with federal crimes at the Portland ICE facility who appeared in court Thursday. Since June, 38 people have been federally charged in connection with nightly protests at the building.
On the night of June 19, Houpis was seen using a drill to screw metal brackets onto a plywood door that covered a side exit of the ICE building in the South Waterfront neighborhood, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Nyhus.
