A commuter rail conductor, who is the son of the police chief for MBTA Transit , was convicted of manslaughter Wednesday for shooting and killing his estranged wife’s boyfriend while he slept next to her, court filings show.

Brian M. Green and his wife were in the middle of a divorce when he entered their former apartment in Everett at 4:20 a.m. on July 19, 2021 and shot Jarmahl Sutson while he was asleep, prosecutors said.

Sutson, 38, lived in Lynn and was a father of four, including Green’s estranged wife’s child.

After an 11 day trial in Middlesex Superior Court, a jury rejected a first-degree murder conviction and instead found Green guilty of manslaughter. They also convicted Green of unarmed burglary and solicitation to commit a crime, according to court records.
