It’s been ten months since wildfires ravaged the Pacific Palisades, killing 12 people, many of them seniors.

But the pain is still fresh for victims like Tom Doran, who saw not only his home go up in flames, but those of his in-laws that lived across the street.

“Decades of memories, hard work, [and] stability were erased. It’s hard to describe what it feels like to watch a lifetime of work and memories go up in flames,” Doran said Thursday at a congressional field hearing hosted by Republicans Senators Rick Scott, R-Fla., and Ron Johnson, R-Wis.

The pair have launched an investigation into what they call “the failures at all levels of government” in fire preparedness and response.
