ELLSWORTH, Maine — Digging, mulching, and planting brought volunteers and city crews together along Washington Street this week as part of a community effort to expand Ellsworth's green spaces.
The initiative is led by Ellsworth's Parks and Recreation Department and Arbor Commission and is currently in the first year of a three-year project. City officials plan to continue expanding the tree canopy across additional streets in the years ahead.
Roddy Ehlrenbach, director of the Parks and Recreation Department, said community involvement is key.
