RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The longest government shut down in history has ended that means snap benefits will be returning, at least for the near future.

But Nevadan families are still feeling the bite of the loss of those services over the last month having to choose between feeding their families or paying their rent or power bill.

Jocelyn Lantrip with the food bank of northern Nevada say these impacts are huge here in the Silver State.

“Unfortunately, what families are seeing, and individuals are seeing is that they had to make choices in the last 40 days of missing paychecks and not getting SNAP benefits to maybe all their bills aren’t getting paid. There’s a ripple effect that happens in anybody’s budget. And so, they’re going to be dealing with that for a while,” says Lantrip.
