COLUMBUS, Ohio — After a 30-minute delay due to a fire drill, jurors in the trial of former Blendon Township police officer Connor Grubb heard from several expert witnesses Thursday as they consider whether Grubb was justified in the 2023 shooting death of Ta’Kiya Young.

Young was shot and killed in August 2023 outside a Kroger store after she was accused of stealing alcohol. Surveillance video showed a store employee flagging down officers in the parking lot. When Grubb and a sergeant questioned Young as she sat in her vehicle, the car began to move forward with Grubb standing in front of it. He fired one shot, killing Young.
