WEST HARTFORD, Conn. —
With nearly $1.5 billion is up for grabs between the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots, history could be made if one of the winning tickets is bought in Connecticut .
The mega millions jackpot is expected to grow to $965 million and Powerball at $546 million.
The Mega Millions estimated prize money would be the eighth largest jackpot since the game started in 2002. If no one wins it during the next drawing, the jackpot could cross one billion dollars.
Together, there would be more than $1.5 billion up for grabs should no one win this weekend. The record for the largest jackpot pool ever in the United States belongs to power ball at $2.04 billion, coming from a winning number in California.
