An educator in Maryland was arrested after allegedly matching with a teen boy on a dating app and having sex in his vehicle, authorities announced on Thursday.
Elkridge resident William Nelson II, 26, a paraeducator at Guilford Park High School in Jessup, has been charged with third-degree sexual offense following an encounter with a student off school grounds on Wednesday, Nov. 12, according to the Howard County Police Department.
It is alleged that Nelson met the 15-year-old through a dating app and engaged in sexual intercourse in the educator's vehicle. The teen reported the incident to school staff, who contacted the police.
Nelson was arrested at the school on Thursday, Nov. 13.
Investigators made note that "preliminarily, detectives do not believe the two interacted at or outside of Guilford Park prior to meeting through the dating app."
Nelson is being held at the Howard County Detention Center, and according to the Howard County Public School System, it placed Nelson on administrative leave immediately upon hearing of the allegation.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding any other children who may have been targeted by Nelson has been asked to contact the Howard County Police Department.
