SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

Dana Williamson, Gov. Gavin Newsom's former chief of staff and well-connected Democratic political consultant is facing federal criminal charges after being indicted on Wednesday .

The complex claims against her involve three separate issues: illegally taking campaign funds to help pay an elected official's aide, falsifying business contracts related to a COVID-19 era loan, and claiming luxury items as business expenses on her taxes.
