Crossing guards, traffic safety agents and other road safety initiatives could be on the chopping block if the province doesn’t offer significantly more money for speed calming measures than what it announced on Thursday, Mayor Olivia Chow says.
The ban on speed cameras goes into effect Friday, despite weeks of pleading by mayors , researchers , parents and families to improve rather than eliminate the automated speed enforcement program.
In its place, Premier Doug Ford’s government is offering municipalities money to add traffic-calming infrastructure in safety zones .
